A new study at Mount Sinai School of Medicine that supports a previous study by the National Institute on Aging, found that the levels of AGEs in a person’s body were determined by direct dietary intake of them rather than the number of calories, fats or sugars they ingest.

In other words, eating fried, grilled and broiled meats raises the levels of AGEs.

AGEs were previously known to be associated with diabetes and insulin imbalance; but there’s more. High levels of AGE’s cause oxidative damage which increases inflammatory processes and inhibit synthesis of nitric oxide.

Nitric oxide is needed by many systems in the body including the cardiovascular system, immune system, nervous system and the brain.

Inflammation is the underlying cause for a bunch of diseases including heart disease, kidney damage and Alzheimer’s disease. Basically, AGEs increase the body’s inflammatory processes – and hence aging.

Too many AGEs in the body begin to overwhelm the ability of the body to get rid of these toxins and so they accumulate. The researchers found that people aged 65 and older had 35% more accumulated AGEs than those under age 45. The speculation is that the kidneys loose efficiency as we get older and are unable to clear the AGEs as efficiently as a younger person.

You have probably heard a lot about trans fats in the last few years. Well, the researchers in this study are advocating the same sort of approach with AGEs: that people eat less fried, grilled or broiled meat and that food nutrition labels reflect the AGE’s in the products. They advocate cooking methods that keep the water content of the meat higher.

Boiling, stewing and poaching meats avoids production of AGEs.

Since those cooking methods also are lower in fat calories, cooking that way will make us thinner, healthier and younger! Not a bad idea..

Good Quality Water Is Anti-Aging

Whenever the topic of anti-aging crops up many people think of putting on the latest scientific discovery miracle cream and pop in super vitamins or taking growth hormone for result within 3 months. There is one very important item that many underestimate which can thwart the effectiveness of their novelty look younger formula.

In my previous post I have mentioned about quality water. This is the missing chapter that even cosmetologist easily overlooked.

Why is water so important in our pursuit to stay young longer. This is because our body consist of 70% water. Insufficient water dehydrate the dermal cells causes immediate minor wrinkles not seen by the naked eyes to form. Beside cooling our body, water main function is to discharge toxin materials from our body system which are produce during metabolism. This toxin loaded water need constant discharge mainly through the kidneys. The proverbial 8 glasses of drinking water is the minimal body requirement. Many of us hardly met this in our daily consumption of water.I usually drank about 3 to 4 liters of water per day depend on the weather. One liter in the morning, one liter in the afternoon and one liter at night.

I use a water filter with 3 levels of filtering process. The first level physically removes disease bacteria, pathogenic cysts like Giardia, Cryptosporidia, and other specific parasites and debris down to 0.1 microns (0.4 absolute). By removing the pathogens it also removes the disease toxins they contain and is far more superior to "poisoning" organisms with pesticides and allowing the pathogen residue, toxins and pesticides to remain in the water to be consumed.

The second layer of filter traps and captures specific organic and other chemicals such as pesticides, herbicides and solvents, as well as chlorine and other trace contaminates that can be toxic and/or carcinogenic, along with foul taste, odour and colour.

We heard alot these days about this new personal passion about slowing down aging process or they put it in a more dynamic term such as reverse aging. There are as many anti-aging gurus as there are followers. The list of factors they propounded are such as healthy diets, sufficient exercise, lots of fresh air, sufficient sleep, good quality water, stop smoking, stop caffeine and the list can go on and on. Each of these factors have their own sub-list again. Example fresh air and negative ions. If we look further in the exercise category, some even promote sex as a very effective anti-aging factor for those 40 and above. This is what we never heard of 20 years ago. Everybody is promoting, everybody is selling.
